Dwayne was personable, friendly and knowledgeable. His touring van was super comfortable and equipped with all the snacks, water and blankets you'd need. We travelled with our elderly parents and even though the road was long and the landscape harsh, they were comfortable throughout, and had the time of their lives. Dwayne also made it a point to find out what we were interested in and was happy to explore sights that were not on the itinerary if they were on the way (and he had some excellent suggestions). Our expectations were exceeded throughout, and we still reminisce about our wonderful time in Arizona.

Day 1: Sedona

Discover the secrets Sedona has to offer. Enjoy the area’s magnificent scenery of red rock buttes, pinnacles, mesas and canyons. View the area’s famous rock formations such as Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, Courthouse Butte, Coffee Pot and more. Relax as we wind our way through Oak Creek Canyon. Stand at the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau where you can experience a spectacular endless view of the canyon below. Enjoy local shopping at Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village or wander through the original shopping district in Uptown Sedona. Find stunning panoramic views and photo opportunities with a backdrop of Thunder Mountain from Airport Mesa.

Day 2: Sinagua Indian Ruins

Step back into a time when the Sinagua Indians inhabited this region. Discover the ruins they left behind as you hike along different trails to get up close and explore them first hand. Hike along the ledge of the cliff dwellings of Walnut Canyon that are found hundreds of feet above the canyon floor or search the area for cliff dwellings along the canyon walls from the upper rim. Experience an ancient trading hub where Native American cultures from many areas congregated and shared their resources and knowledge as you survey some of the pueblos that make up Wupatki National Monument. Walk along the lava flows left behind by the eruption of Sunset Crater almost 1,000 years ago, an event that changed the landscape forever.

Day 3: Monument Valley

Monument Valley is a collection of stunning buttes, spires and mesas commonly used by Hollywood as a popular backdrop in many movies. Travel through the Navajo Reservation to view these magnificent red monoliths. Learn about the traditions and culture directly from the Navajo.  Delve in to the movies of John Ford and John Wayne at Gouldings Lodge and soak up the iconic vistas from the View Hotel at Monument Valley at both sunset and sunrise. Shop authentic Native American arts and crafts. Optional and highly recommended private 2.5 hour back-country tour with a local Navajo guide that takes you off-road to areas of Monument Valley not otherwise accessible.

Day 4: Antelope Canyon

Tour one of the most photographed areas in Arizona. Drive through the Painted Desert and learn about the Navajo culture along the way. In Page, explore Glen Canyon Dam, Carl Hayden Visitor Center and Lake Powell. Enjoy lunch at an authentic Mexican restaurant or at a famous BBQ grill. Finally, explore the local slot canyons without the crowds, as you wander through Secret Antelope Canyon, and look down on the iconic Horseshoe Bend of the Colorado River from a private vista point a thousand feet above the river.

Day 5: Grand Canyon

Have your cameras ready as we embark on the entire 25-mile scenic Desert View Drive that offers breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. It runs along the southern rim from the east entrance to the main south entrance with numerous opportunities to view stunning vantage points of the Grand Canyon. This is also a popular place to catch pictures of local wildlife. Partake in a leisurely stroll along the paved Rim Trail at Grand Canyon Village where you can explore the area and absorb all that the Grand Canyon has to offer. Discover the architectural treasures along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon such as the historic El Tovar Hotel, Hopi House, Yavapai Observation Station, and Desert View Watchtower. You will also have the opportunity to shop Native American arts and crafts from the Navajo and Hopi Tribe and browse traditional souvenirs.
